Tunisia and Esperance star Maher Kanzari expressed cautious optimism after the World Cup draw placed his side in a group with hosts Japan and European sides Belgium and Russia.
"It is a good group for us, and it should be pretty open" Kanzari told BBC Sport Online.
In two previous World Cup appearances, in 1978 and 1998, Tunisia has not managed to qualify from the group stages.
"In any case, we will do the maximum possible, and if we do our best, our objective of getting to the second round is definitely achievable."
Not easy
Though he will not accept that Tunisia`s group is one of the easiest, Kanzari does agree that Tunisia
have got off relatively lightly compared to some of the other African teams.
"Maybe our group is not as difficult as Senegal`s or some of the other African teams, but at this level they are all good sides. We are going to be suspicious of every team we face."
Kanzari is also content with the progress the `Eagles of Carthage` are making under new coach Henri Michel.
"Yeah, it is going pretty well. Henri Michel is a great name, and we are expecting a lot from him" he said.
If Michel, and Kanzari deliver, Tunisia have every chance of progressing from their "open" group to the second round for the first time in the history of Tunisian football.
