Volleyball: Cameroon to Take Part in Olympic Qualifiers (07.10.2003)
The events will take place in Kenya and Tunisia from January 03 to 10, 2004.
Volleyball qualifiers for African Zone (men’s series) ahead of the 2004 Olympic Games, Athens, will take place in Nairobi, Kenya in January 2004. The Cameroonian national team is among the eight teams that have indicated their participation. Besides Kenya who represented Africa at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games in Australia, Nigeria, Cameroon, Ethiopia, South Africa, Botswana, DR Congo, Algeria and reigning Africa Cup of Nations Champions, Egypt will take part in the event. Draws for the event billed for January 3 to 10, 2004 in Nairobi will take place on December, 03, 2003.

The Secretary-general of the Kenya Volleyball Association (KVF), Jacob Owiti, told Pana press that more entries are still expected before the deadline for submission runs out on October 3, 2003. The Nairobi event will run alongside the women´s qualifier, also set for 3 to 10 January, 2004 in Tunisia. Among those expected to feature in the women´s Olympic qualifier are Egypt who represented Africa in the Sydney Olympic Games.
Winners of the qualifiers will represent Africa at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games. The bulk of the team gearing up for the Olympic qualifier are currently battling it out in the ongoing All Africa Games in Abuja, Nigeria.
