Former Liberia striker George Weah is facing a month on the sidelines after damaging his ligaments in a match for his team Al Jazirah.
Weah, who is captain of the UAE club, sustained the damage to his knee after receiving a hard tackle from behind.
He was victim of a foul by Mohammed Khamis as Al Jazirah won 3-0 over Al Nasr on Friday.
"George`s ligaments are severely damaged and he needs a month`s rest and light training before returning to competitive matches again," Al Jazirah`s
The injury prompted the Al Jazirah board to make a formal complaint about the type of challenge that caused the damage.
"We ask the UAE Football Association to find ways to preserve star players from such foul play as the clubs have paid a lot of money to bring them to enrich the game in the country," a board statement said after the match.
Weah, 35, is in his second season with Al Jazirah and is the team`s highest scorer.
